I MASON CITY GLOBE-GAZETTE AUGUST 30 1932 FOUR FIRES IN NORTH IOWA ORIGINATED BY LIGHTNING BARN, SCHOOL HIT AT BELMOND Losses Estimated at $8,000 on Farms in Vicinity of Emmetsburg. BELMOND, Aug. barn belonging to Frank Finn on the Adolph Dorr farm, two miles north of town was struck by lightning early Sunday morning, and burned to the ground. Mr. Finn was able to save the livestock in the barn.

The Belmond fire company responded to a call, and prevented other buildings from burning. The school building in town was struck during the storm. a small amount of damage being done. Struck Near Emmetsburg EMMETSBURG, Aug. 30-Lightning caused fire losses in excess of $8.000 on two widely separated farms near Emmetsburg early Sunday morning.

The first fire was on the farm of W. A. Korlaski, eight miles southeast of town. A combined horse barn and machine shed 54 by 60 feet in size was struck and quickly consumed. A nearby cow barn 20 by 24 feet caught fire from the larger building and was quickly burned to the ground.

The two buildings were estimated to be worth $3,000 with only $1,100 insurance. The tenant on the farm, W. Korlaski, a son of the owner, suffered the loss of several calves, some spring pigs, 25 tons of alfalfa hay, all his harness and a cream separator. loss is estimated at $1,000. The second fire occurred on the farm of Mrs.

F. T. Orsborn, five miles northwest of Emmetsburg, about two hours later than the first. Here a two story house estimated worth $2,500 was destroyed with $1,500 insurance coverage. It will be replaced at once.

Concounty, certs were given by the City high school band, the Forest CityLeland-Thompson Band, and by the Lake Mills band. The combined bands played "'The Stars and Stripes Forever," under the direction of Woolridge, Mason City, who was clarinetist with Sousa's band. F. C. Gilchrist was the speaker of the day.

Northwood tied 3 to 3 with Forest City after playing 10 innings of the baseball game at the Rice Lake festival. It became SO dark the teams were unable to play longer, SO will play out the tie later. Driver's Livense Is Revoked at Lake Mills LAKE MILLS, Aug. Anderson's driver's license was revoked, and he was bound over to the grand jury from the justice court yesterday, on a charge of driving an automobile while intoxicated. Return From Minnesota.

Will Go to Cedar Rapids. -Miss Beulah Slocum will leave soon for Cedar Rapids to enter St. Luke's hospital for training. Will Manage Dairy. BANCROFT-Ambrose Mescher left the first of the week for Kenosha, where he will manage a dairy owned and operated by the Woodlawn Dairy company.

This dairy consists of 880 acres of land. Home From Illinois. SEXTON -Mr. and Mrs. William Hartley got home yesterday from Pontiac, where they spent a week with relatives and friends.

and Mrs. Ralph McWhirter on their wedding anniversary. DEXTER, NASHUA PIONEER, DIES Rites Wednesday for Early Settler Who Served as Mayor Twice. NASHUA, Aug. Thompson Dexter, twice mayor of Nashua, died yesterday at the home of his daughter, Mrs.

C. L. Johnson. He was born in Fredericktown, Ohio, Dec. 8, 1841, from there went to Wisconsin.

In 1863, he came to Iowa and took up 640 acres of land five mies west of New Hampton, paying $1,400 for it. On Jan. 3, 1864, he married Mary Ann Lester, who died 11 years ago. Mr. and Mrs.

Dexter moved to Nashua 63 years ago, anaton many years he conducted a market. He served as deputy sheriff of Chickasaw county, 13 years as county assessor, 30 justice of the peace, member the city years, council and of the board of education and was a member of the Congregational church In 1929, he was awarded a present by the First American Fire company in recognition of his connection with the company for 33 years. He is survived by three daughters, Mrs. C. L.

Johnson, Nashua: Mrs. Lou Smith and Mrs. W. F. Getsch, Minneapolis; Mrs.

H. S. Hanson, Peoria, and one son, Clark R. Dexter, Nashua. The funeral will be held at the Johnson home Wednesday at 2 p.

Bancroft Auxiliary Gets First National Citation BANCROFT, Aug. Bancroft American Legion auxiliary won a national citation for 100 per cent in everything.

This auxiliary is nine years old and this is the first citiation it has won. Mrs. E. J. Seeney is president of the auxiliary and Mrs.

TITONKA boy was born to Mr. and Mrs. Harm Harringa, east of town. They now have a family of four boys and seven girls. Were in Minneapolis.

OSAGE and Mrs. L. C. Bowman arrived home Monday from an outing of nearly a week at Min- neapolis and vicinity. Come From Eldon.
