The sheriff, patrolman and half dozen other members of the Atlantic chamber of commerce went into the fields after working hours and drove tractors to get the crops planted between rains.

In Winneshiek county 3 neighbors with tractors helped prepare a 28-acre field for corn planting for Frank Moudry, 65, who is farming 200 acres without a tractor. At least 2 of the neighbors had never before done field work ''2 i it then moved on' to the Harold Dewell farm, prepared 50 acres for planting and planted 35 acres. Dewell was behind because he had been doing and helping on the Crist farm. Also in Cedar county, a crew of 12 victory farm volunteers pulled sour dock on one farm. In Buchanan county, 4 farmers pooled their equipment to plow 200 acres, disk 900 acres 2 and 3 times, and plant 150 acres of corn.

One tractor ran from Wednesday evening until 1 a. m. Sunday with only 6 idle hours. Two other farms pooled their equipment, kept onctractor running day and night for 5 days-. They plowed 40 acres without stopping.

Ed Severson, Riceville, are all in the service, 4 in the army and 1 with the seabces. Cpl. Willard Severson, having entered the service in January, 1943, was sent overseas 4 months later and is now stationed in England. Milford Severson, machinist's mate 3c, enlisted in the seabees in June, 1943, left for active duty in September of the same year and is now stationed in Florida. His wife and 4 children live in Nora Springs.

Flight Officer Erling Severson entered the service in April, 1941, left for overseas in March, 1944, landed in north Africa, and at present is in Italy. Sgt. Luther Severson left with the national guard in January, 1941, going to Ireland, England, and north Africa. He is now stationed in Italy and was recently awarded the Purple Heart. Lt.

Orville Severson also left with the national guard in 1941. In March, 1944, he landed in British Isles for the second time, having served 8 months in Ireland in 1942. Lt. Severson is now stationed in England. er kept going 72 hours without sleep.
