Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept.

20, 2008, at the First Congregational Church in Buffalo Center, with Pastor David Langer officiating. Burial will be at Graceland Ceme- tery in Buffalo Center. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today, Sept. 19, at the Winter Funeral Home in Buffalo Center.

Weaver Bessie Mar- garet (Bosma) Weaver was born March 16, 1913, in Kossuth County, southwest of Buffalo Center to Thomas and Florence (Adams) Bosma. She was the ninth of a family of 14 children which included seven boys and seven girls. She attended country school and helped with many things on the farm. She also worked as a hired girl for several families in the area. On June 15, 1941, she married Harold August Weaver.

To this union, three daughters were born. For several years, they farmed in the Lakota, Buffalo Center, and Garner areas until 1960 when they moved into Buffalo Center. In 1976, their marriage ended in divorce. Bessie was a faithful attendant at the First Congregational Church. She was their janitor for 12 years which was a great joy to her.

She accepted Jesus as her Savior at the age of 13 and later was baptized. She loved to read the Bible, sing hymns and was a prayer warrior. Bessie also did cleaning for various businesses and individuals in the community. She loved to garden, sew, bake, paint pictures, write poems and letters, read, and do crafts. She also enjoyed her flowers and watching and feeding the birds.

In 1992, she moved from her home to the care center for the winter. Then in the spring of 1993, she moved to an assisted living unit in Garner and then moved back to the care center a couple of years later. Left to cherish her memory are her three daughters, Gloria Smith and her husband, Lewis Charles, of Indianola; Karen Penning and her husband, Doug, of Buffalo Center; and Debra Fardal and her husband, Dan, of Forest City; five grandchildren, Keith Larson and his wife, Joan, of Burlington; Amy Hicok and her husband, Bill, of Lake Mills; Angela Borst and her husband, Jeff, of Altoona; Jeremy Fardal and Kristine Mannes of Ringsted; and Steven Fardal, of Forest City; seven great-grandchildren: Jennifer Peterson, of Clear Lake; Chelsea Larson, of Des Moines; Zachary, Cody, Logan, and Brayden Borst, of Altoona; Evan Fardal of Ringsted; one great-great-grandson, Carter Peterson, of Clear Lake; one sister, Annabel Oswald, of Blue Earth, one brother, Alfred (Jim) Bosma of Buffalo Center; one sister-in-law, Grace Bosma, of Buffalo Center; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; six brothers: Lewis, Ed, Thomas, Heiko, Bert, and Clarence; five sisters, Martha Horton, Lillian Mastin, Esther Mastin, Grace Hassebroek, and Irene Burger; and by sister and brothersin-law. Conner Colonial Chapel, 641-324-1543. www.colonialchapels.com LaVern Rogness FERGUS FALLS, Minn. LaVern Rogness, 85, of Fergus Falls, died Wednesday (Sept. 17, 2008) at Broen Home Short Stay. He was born July 1, 1923, in Emmons, the son of Henry and Luella (Brua) Rogness.

LaVern attended country schools in Minnesota and Iowa. He started farming on his own in 1944. On June 30, 1946, LaVern married Eileen Schwartz at the Radio Chapel in Mason City. The couple farmed in the Rogness Mason City and Joice areas for 20 years before moving to Fergus Falls in 1966. La Vern and Eileen continued to raise livestock Rogness and crop farm Iowa south of Fer- gus Falls until he retired.

Eileen passed away in 2005. La Vern enjoyed building items out of wood, rebuilding machinery, working with livestock, collecting toy tractors and attending toy shows and farm auctions. He was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church and dearly loved spending time with his family and friends, but more importantly was his love for his savior, Jesus Christ. Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 20, at Bethel Lutheran Church, Fergus Falls, with the Rev. David Foss officiating. Burial will be in Bethlehem Lutheran Cemetery.

Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 20, at Trinity Lutheran Church 213 N. Pennsylvania Mason City, with Pastor Kathy Graves officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 4:30 to 7 p.m. today at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given Iowa City Hospice, 1025 Wade to Wass Iowa City, IA 52240. Marian was born April 5, 1924, in Lincoln, Neb.

She was the daughter of Roy S. and Ethel T. Weber. The family moved to Mason City in 1940 and Marian graduated from Mason City High School in 1942. She married Robert C.

Wass in 1945. They were stationed in Texas and Florida until his discharge from the U.S. Army Air Force. She was a mother and homemaker and a longtime active member of Trinity Lutheran Church where she was involved with several organizations. She was a member of PEO Chapter KW, an avid bridge player and a regular at the YWCA where she enjoyed swimming and volleyball.

The family would like to thank the staff at Emerson Point and Iowa City Hospice for the loving care given to Marian. She is survived by two sons, John R. Wass and his wife, Catherine, of Suffolk, and James M. Wass and his wife, Diane, of Tiffin; one daughter, Jean A. Sheeley and her husband, Bryan, of Coralville; two granddaughters, Sarah K.

Killion and her husband, Jeremy of Coralville, and Samantha L. Sheeley of Emporia, one great-grandson, Cayne L. Killion of Coralville; brother, Donald (Doris) Weber of Mason City; one niece and three nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert in 1996; her parents, Roy S. and Ethel T.

Weber; and an infant son in 1951. Norman 'Jiggs' Lee Rice PLYMOUTH Norman "Jiggs" Lee Rice, 87, of Plymouth, died Wednesday (Sept. 17, 2008) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City. A memorial service and celebration of life will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Sept.

24, 2008, at the Plymouth United Methodist Church, 508 Carter St. in Plymouth, with the Rev. Wendy Johannesen officiating. Inurnment will be in the Evergreen Cemetery in Britt, with military graveside honors conducted by members of the Britt Veterans Ceremonial Unit. Visitation will be held from 6 until 8 p.m.

Bernice Payer BELMOND Bernice Payer, 79, of Belmond, passed away Tuesday (Sept. 16, 2008) at the Belmond Medical Center. Mass of Christian burial for Bernice Payer will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 20, 2008, at Saint Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Belmond with the Rev.

Nils Hernandez officiating. Burial will be in the St. Francis Cemetery in Belmond. Visitation for Bernice Payer will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. today, Sept.

19, at the Dugger Funeral Home, 111 Luick's Lane S. in Belmond. A parish rosary and Scriptural wake service will held at 7 p.m. at the funeral home. There will be no viewing at the church.

Bernice, the daughter of Walter and Bertha Riley Heddinger, was born Dec. 29, 1928, in Emmetsburg. She attended schools in Cylinder, Rolfe and West Bend. Bernice graduated from Rolfe High School in 1947. Bernice was united in marriage to Jerry Payer on June 5, 1950, in Rolfe.

The couple made their home in Pocahontas for 14 years. She worked for a time as a cook at the Ideal in Pocahontas. Bernice and Jerry moved to Belmond in 1964. She was proud of her role as a farm wife and of the time she spent raising her children. Bernice was the office administrator for the Manly Ready Mix Plant in Manly with Jerry and also helped him at the Motel 6.

They moved back to Belmond in 1991. She was a dedicated employee of the Deli for many years. Bernice liked being in the outdoors, especially fishing. She could often be found enjoying games, whether it was Yahtzee, cards or even computer games. She loved time spent with her family most of all.

Bernice was an active member of the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church. In the past she was also a member of the Rosary Society and the Catholic Daughters of the Americas. Bernice is survived by her husband Jerry; her three children: Connie (Jim) Eckhoff of Meservey, Steven (Lynda) Payer of Cottonwood, and Richard (Laura) Payer, of Mason City; grandchildren, Kimberly Wilkinson, of Clarion, Brian (Jen) Eckhoff, of Mason City, Andrew Beavers of Lutsen, Lindsay Beavers Ryan Gerow) of Mason City and Jonathon Payer of Mason City; great grandchildren: Danielle Wilkinson, Jeremiah Wilkinson, and Benjamin Eckhoff; sisters, Eileen Allen, Chatfield, Lucy Johnson and husband Ron, Cedar Falls: Catherine Mead, Aplington, Darlene Weishaar, Oelwein; sisters-in-law, Gertrude Heddinger, Fairlawn, N.J., Joyce Heddinger, Fort Dodge, Doris Pickering, Louisville, Bernice Noyes, Blair, Gerry Jordan, Boone: Esther Payer Pocahontas, Karlene Payer, Pocahontas; brothers-in-law, Duane (Shirley) Payer, Centerville, Ronald Payer, Pocahontas, Bob (Patty) Payer, Storm Lake; and numerous other nieces and nephews. Carrie Denise (Gruis) Meggers Carrie Denise (Gruis) Meggers, 32, died following a long illness Monday (Sept. 15, 2008) with family by her side at Mercy Medical Center, Des Moines. Visitation will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 20, at the Zion Lutheran Church, 805 E.

Main Rockford, Iowa, and funeral services at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Patricia Shaw officiating. A service of memory will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Rockford. Carrie was born April 20, 1976, in Mason City to Dennis and Meggers Meggers Patricia (Reynolds) Gruis.

She graduated from Rockford Senior High School and Hawkeye Community College in Waterloo. Carrie and Theodore (Ted) Meggers had three children, Madison Marie (8), Jonathen Matthew (6) and Mackenzie Marcele (4). Left to cherish her memory are her children, Madison, Jonathen, and Mackenzie, in the care of their grandparents, Dan and Jan Johnson. She is also survived by her parents, Dennis (Becky) Gruis, Patricia Gruis; sisters, Laurie (Merlin) Eckerson; Dee (Travis) Schweizer; and Jenna (Tim) Sondag; aunts Sue Healey and cousins, Mike and Pat Healey, Debra (James) Loven and cousin, Jill Loven; Uncle Dan Reynolds; and cousins, Sterling and Matthew Reynolds; grandmother, Mary Lou (Art) Rethamel; niece and nephews: Kalie and Kaleb Eckerson and Taylor Schweizer; also, Carrie's cherished friend, John Hutchinson. Patricia L. (Bethke) Stallings, 84, of Sedro Woolley, formerly of Garner, died Thursday (Sept. 11, 2008) at Skagit Valley Hospital, Mount Vernon, Wash. Graveside services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept.

20, at the Concord Township Cemetery in Garner, with the Rev. Harvey Opp officiating. There will be no visitation. Cataldo Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Stallings Stallings Dorothy (Whitney) Bethke was born July 10, 1924, at Hubbard, Iowa.

She attended school in Hubbard and graduated from Garner High School in 1942. She then attended Stephens College. In 1944, she enlisted in the U.S. Navy and was honorably discharged as a Seaman First Class. After moving to California in the 1950s, she worked for the California Department of Motor Vehicles and then Pacific Telephone and Telegraph as an operator.

After retiring from she resided in Paradise, Calif. until 1987 at which time, she relocated to Sedro Woolley, to be near family. She is survived by two sons, Bill (Toni) and Joe (Patti) Holden, both of Arlington, a daughter, Polly (John) Harvey, of Wasilla, Alaska; eight grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. www.cataldofuneralhome.com Luella Zanios Rumeliote MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. Luella Zanios Rumeliote, 91, passed away peacefully on Wednesday (Sept. 17, 2008) surrounded by family. Formerly of Mason City, Luella moved to Minneapolis to be close to Rumeliote her dearly loved family. Preceded in death by the love of her life, husband Costa; parents James and Vasiliki (Bessie) Zanios and nine sisters and brothers, Marie Malakataris, Fala Soumas, Stella Pathoulas, Jean James, George Zanios, Tom Zanios, Gertrude Ringus, Elizabeth Paras and Chris Zanios.

She is survived by her ades, Bloomington, Minn. and Elaine Boosalis (James), Bloomington, grandchildren Stephanie Stephenson (Sean) of Phoenix, Krisanthya Reiman (Dean) of Elk River, Andrea Pfleider (Greg) of Plymouth, Minn. and Michael Boosalis (Maggie) of San Antonio, Texas; her four precious treasures, great-grandchildren Nicole Zahariades, Reinnen Pfleider, Tatum Pfleider and Samuel Stephenson. She is survived by one sister Helen Berris of Detroit, Mich. Born Aug.

7, 1917, in Mason City, Luella was one of 11 children. She married Costa D. Rumeliote in October of 1938. Luella and her husband founded Costa's Supper Club in Mason City. After Costa's untimely death in 1955, she continued to operate the club until the late 1960s.

She loved her family and enjoyed baking and cooking her special recipes for them and others. Luella also loved gardening, playing cards with friends and family as well as being active in the hospitality business. She was involved in the Greek Orthodox Church both in Mason City and Minneapolis, and particularly enjoyed St. Mary's Seniors Group. She was limitless in her caring and nurturing.

The family would like to thank everyone at Mount Olivet Home and especially Jeff Schleif and the staff of the third floor, as well as Dr. Jennifer Olson of Park Nicollet Clinic. A memorial prayer service will be held at 11 a.m on Saturday, Sept. 20, at St. Mary's Greek Orthodox Church, 3450 Irving Ave.

Minneapolis, Minn. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 23, at the Greek Orthodox Church of the Transfiguration, 1311 Second St. S.W., Mason City, with the Rev.

Joseph Mirowski officiating. Trisagion prayer services will be held at 6 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 22, at the church. The family will greet relatives and friends from 4 to 6 p.m.
