at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 209 Second St. N.E., Mason City. ROGERS. Vernerd, 94, of Q. I have seen various doctors providing free preliminary exams or spinal screens.

Do you provide such services? A. Yes, but this needs some explanation. When you visit a chiropractor, during the first consultation a health history is taken and screening tests are made to try to determine if that patient could benefit from chiropractic care. Usually that is the service provided free of charge. If I don't think chiropractic could be of any benefit, I will tell the patient and no charge is made.

If, however, the patient is likely to be benefited by chiropractic, then I will proceed with the exam which might include physical exam, X-rays, lab tests, etc. plus treatment. That, of course, is what the patient or his insurance pays for. To my knowledge this is the usual procedure by those doctors providing such service. If you are cost conscious about your chiropractic care (and I certainly would be), I suggest you find out the cost of various services provided by the doctor, in advance.

You will then know the overall costs and not just a preliminary exam or screen. I recommend calling various doctors offices before you decide where to go. o. Ask the charges for the usual office visit, physiotherapy apy applications such as ultrasound, and what a full spine 3 set of X-rays would cost. You will be pleasantly surprised how cost efficient chiropractic care is.
