GLOBE GAZETTE THURSDAY, DEC. 5, 2002 A9 THE RECORD OBITUARIES George Henry Fountas CLEAR LAKE George Henry Fountas, 72, of 720 N. 11th Clear Lake, died Tuesday (Dec. 3, 2002) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m.

Friday at St. Patrick's Catholic Fountas Church in Clear Lake with Monsignor Robert Hogan officiating. Interment will be in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery in Mason City. Military honors will be by the Mason City Veterans Memorial Association.

Visitation will be from 4 8 p.m. today at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St. in Clear Lake, with scriptural wake service at 6:30 p.m. and Knights of Columbus Rosary at 7 p.m.

George was born Oct. 11, 1930, in Mason City, the son John George and Cynthia (Schick) Fountas. He graduatfrom Mason City High. School in 1948. He served in the United States Navy.

George married Barbara Paulsen on July 7, 1950, in Albert Lea, Minn. He worked Interstate Power 42 years and nine months, retiring Aug. 21, 1992. At his retirement, he was area manager Clear Lake, a post he took up in 1985. George started out in Mason City on a line crew and later became foreman.

move to Clear Lake with the same job position came in 1967. Then he served as area manager at Nora Spring for two years before being transferred back to the Clear Lake area office as area manager. George enjoyed gardening, fishing, baking fruitcakes and bowling. He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church Mason City Veterans of Foreign Wars.

He served on the Comprehensive Systems Board, Avenue of the Saints Planning Committee, Clear Lake Economic Development Board and several other boards. George is survived by his eight children, Mary Fountas, of Point Arena, John Fountas and his wife, Julie, of Parachute, James Fountas and his wife, Jeanne, of Adel, Iowa, Julia Pendegrass and her husband, Paul, of Oronoco, Ann Polson and her husband, Keith, of Bloomington, Paul Fountas and his wife, Vicki, of Adel, Theresa Seecoomar her husband, Milton, of Prairieville, and Philip Fountas, of Mason City; 23 grandchildren and 16 greatgrandchildren; three sisters, Stella Rodemeyer, of Pharr, Florence Larsen and her husband, Bob, of Clear Lake, and Lamona Hennigar and her husband, Jim, of Madison, and three brothers, Jim Fountas and his wife, Joyce, of Mason City, Stanley Fountas and his wife, Kelli, Mason City, and Tom Fountas and his wife, Bev, of Sturtevant, sisters-in-law, Darlene Fountas of Newton, Pauline Garcia of Clear Lake, Patsy Barnes of Sheffield and Shirley Carroll of Mason City; and brother-in-law, Don Paulsen and his wife, Helen, of Mason City. The family of Arnold "Bud" Miller has requested that memorial contributions be made to the Arnold "Bud" Miller Memorial Fund in his memory. Arnold "Bud" Wayne Miller, was born on May 29, 1920, in Yankton, S.D., the son of Fred and Mary (Wolf) Miller.

He attended and received his education in the Hamburg, Iowa, school system, and later moved to the Floyd County area and farmed for many years. He was united in marriage to Arlee Stiles on Dec. 9, 1939. He was inducted into the U.S. Army on July 28, 1944, serving overseas in the Philippines with the First Cavalry Division during World War II, and was honorably discharged as a sergeant first class on Jan.

9, 1946. After his discharge, he returned to the Rudd area and farmed for a number of years while driving truck, school bus, working at Oliver's and later establishing Miller Livestock and Truck line in Rudd for 27 years. After selling the business in 1984, he semi retired and drove truck for Hoover Hatchery in Rudd until his health began to fail and then retired. He was united in marriage to Rose Ann Neis McDowell on March 25, 1972, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. He enjoyed gardening, but his great love and enjoyment was his family and grandchildren.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Rose Ann Miller, of Rudd; five sons, Jerry L. Miller and his wife, Judith of Rudd, Gene W. Miller, of Houston, Texas, James Miller, of Mason City, John A. Miller and his wife, Carol of Rudd, and Joel W. Miller and his wife, Linda of Rudd; five stepchildren, Sandra Kuhlemeier and her husband, Courtney, of Rockford, Cathi Hale, of Fort Dodge, Connie Rewerts, of Mason City, Jim McDowell and his wife, Claudia, of Vancouver, and Jerry McDowell, of Burnsville, nine grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, eight step-grandchildren and eight of three sisters, Millie Peterson and her husband, Wendell, of Shenandoah, Helen Stacey hand her husband, Frank, of Riverton, Iowa, and Lola Hesse, of Clinton, Iowa; a brother, Fred Miller and his wife, Marilyn, of Sidney, Iowa, as well as many nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.

Ralph Leonard Grimm OSAGE. Ralph Leonard Grimm Grimm, 52, of Osage, died Tuesday (Dec. 3, 2002). He was born in Charles City on Jan. 25, 1950, the son of Jim and Annabelle (Koebrick) Grimm, and was baptized at St.

John's Lutheran Church in Grimm Charles City in 1952. He Lapitz ducted by the Garner Veterans Ceremonial Unit. Interment will be in St. John's Catholic Cemetery in Duncan. Visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m.

Friday at the Cataldo Funeral Home in Garner and one hour prior to services on Saturday at the church. William Edward Lapitz, the son of Francis Thomas and Stella C. (Rayhons) Lapitz, was born Nov. 23, 1918, at Duncan. He attended Garfield Township School No.

9, Britt High School and Garner High School, graduating in 1936. Following high school, he worked as a painter and carpenter. From 1942 to 1946, he served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II, spending six months in France and Germany. Bill attended the University of Minnesota 1 from 1947 to 1951, receiving his bachelor of science degree in education.

He taught in Kanawha from 1951 to 1952 and mathematics at -RockfordMarble Rock High School from 1952 until 1979, when he retired from teaching. After his retirement, he returned to Duncan to care for his sister. In 1989, he moved to Iowa City and i in June of 1990 he moved to Prairie View Apartments in Garner. He was a member of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Duncan, the American Legion in Rockford, and was a former member of the NEA and ISEA.

He is survived by his sister, Alice Meister, of Manning; a nephew, Bill Meister, of Manning; two nieces, Kathy Nash, of Sedona, and Connie Meister of Sacramento, Calif. He was employed at Spahn Rose Lumber Co. for the past 30 years. He was a member of the Osage V.F.W. and Osage American Legion. Ralph was an avid wrestling fan, and participated in the Iowa High School State Wrestling Tournament.

His passion for the sport had a great influence on his sons' wrestling careers. He was well known in the area for his lawn work with his Ford 8Ntractors, which he collected. Rose, the daughter of Frank G. and Lillian Hejlik Wellik, was born on Sept. 7, 1933, near Duncan. Rose attended country school and graduated from Britt High School. She was united in marriage with Thomas G.

Hughes on Nov. 8, 1954, at Duncan. The couple have since made their home in Britt. Rose received many awards for her outstanding sales achievements as an Avon Lady for the past 20 years. The joys of her life were playing tea with her precious granddaughters, her flower garden, embroidering dishtowels and her coffee at the round table at the Hobo House.

Rose was a member of the Catholic Workman Branch 51, St. Patrick's Rosary Guild and the Hancock County Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. Rose is survived by her husband, Tom, of Britt; three daughters, Becky of Connecticut, and Mary Jo and Linda of Britt; two sons, Todd and wife Jennifer of Thompson, and Jeff of Britt; three granddaughters, Bailey, Lucy and Ella; two sisters, Marie Loebig of Mason City and Marcella Doughan of Algona; a brother, Frank E. Wellik and his wife, Shirley, of Britt; a sister-in-law, Arlene Wellik of Woden; many nieces and nephews, and lots of Bohemians and her "Hobo Family," where she was known as "Railroad Rose."
